The short version

  • We use your numbers for one thing: working out when you can retire.
  • We never sell your information, and we don’t show ads.
  • Documents you upload are read on a computer we run ourselves. We keep the numbers, not the picture of the page.
  • You can ask us to delete everything at any time.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address and your password (stored scrambled, so not even we can read it). If you sign in with Google, we get your email address and name from Google.
  • About you: your age and whether you live in the US or Canada.
  • Your money numbers: what you type in, or what we read from documents you upload — income, spending, savings, debts, benefit amounts, and tax figures.
  • If you subscribe: whether your plan is active. Your card details go straight to our payment company, Stripe. We never see or store your card number.

Your documents

  • When you upload a document, it’s read by software on a computer we run ourselves — not sent to an outside AI company.
  • We don’t save the image or file. We save only the numbers we read from it, after you’ve checked them.
  • We don’t ask for, and we remove, ID numbers such as Social Security or Social Insurance numbers, card numbers, and account numbers. We don’t keep the file’s name either.

The written explanations

The plain-English explanations on your dashboard are written by an AI model running on computer power we rent for that one job. It only receives summary numbers we’ve already worked out — like your age, your monthly totals, and your result. It never receives your documents, your name, or your email address.

Who helps us run the service

We use a small number of companies to run When Can I Retire. Each only gets what it needs to do its job:

  • Supabase: stores your account and your numbers.
  • Vercel: hosts the website.
  • Stripe: handles payments and sales tax.
  • Resend: sends our emails, like sign-up and password links.
  • A computing provider: runs the AI that writes the explanations (summary numbers only).
  • Cloudflare: keeps the connection to our document reader secure.
  • Google: counts website visits (Google Analytics), and signs you in if you choose Google.

Your information may be stored and handled in the United States.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in. We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies so we can count visits and see which pages people use. It sees page addresses, never your money figures or documents. We don’t use advertising cookies.

Your choices

  • You can change or delete any number from your dashboard at any time.
  • To get a copy of your information, or to delete your account and everything in it, send us a message. We’ll do it within 30 days.
  • You can cancel a subscription yourself, any time, under “Your plan”.

Who it's for

When Can I Retire is for adults (18 and over) in the US and Canada. It’s education, not financial advice.

Changes and questions

If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and, for anything important, email you first. Questions? Contact us.
